3) If you selected any option other than "Other Applications" and "Existing data file" in step 2, Import Wizard will show you the steps for creating a data file from that particular software. The picture below shows the instructions for Microsoft Outlook Express as an example. When you have successfully created the data file, please click "Next".

Addressbook Explanation

4) If you selected "Other Applications" in step 2, Import Wizard will point you to Ripplex website (A) where you can find information for creating a data file from some of the applications, as shown below. When you have successfully created the data file, please click "Next" (B). You can also see the instructions here.

5) There are two ways to select files you want to import.

(A) You can just add files by drag & droping into the Import Wizard at this point as shown below. When you are done adding files, please click "Next".

Addressbook Explanation

(B) By clicking the "Add" button, you can open a file/folder browser window and select a file or files as shown below. Then click "Next"

Addressbook Explanation

Note) Some application can only generate multiple vCard files, one file for each contact. In that case, you can select all the vCard files and bring them into the Import Wizard with one of the two ways shown above. The easiest way would be to select all of them at once, as shown below.

6) Import Wizard now asks you to select the character encoding. You may see that for some of the offered selections, the text is all unrecognizable as shown below. You definitely do not want to select one of those choices.

Addressbook Explanation

7) Usually UTF-8 is a good choice for most of the character sets but you may need special character encoding, e.g. Shift_JIS if there are Japanese characters in the file to be imported. Please select a character encoding that works and click "OK".

8) Import Wizard now attempts to map each field of each friend from the imported file into the Ripplex Address Book items and item labels. Following items are displayed:

  1. The total count of contacts and the current contact count are shown.
  2. Information in the imported file for each contact.
  3. The Ripplex item to which the information is to be mapped.
  4. The resultant information for each friend in Ripplex Address Book.

Please note that you can move to different contact by using the arrows on either side of (A). Also, note that you can change the mapping by selecting the correct item (from the menu) in (B).

Addressbook Explanation

Note) Ripplex Address Book gives you the choice of display format (A). Outlook generates CSV file which has the first line (or contact or record) as a label line. By enabling "Use first line as an item label", (B) you can import these texts into Ripplex as labels for each imported item. This generates a more flexible data record as you will end up with the icon for items (like phone, email) with labels (like work, home) and actual data for each one of the contact information of your friend.

9) Please go through each few of the records and make sure that the mapping you selected is correct. If you need to change the mapping, you can do so at any time by changing the mapping (B) and its effect (A) as shown below. Then click "OK".

10) Import Wizard finishes with the summary of the import. Please click "Finish".

Addressbook Explanation
